Abstract

This paper describes the progress to date of a part-time PhD on the topic of ‘Maskirovka’, in the context of the Russian (and Soviet) military. A mixed methods approach, utilising analytical techniques from language-based disciplines, such as applied linguistics, lexicography and translation studies, has been conducting a systematic exposition of the topic. The study has employed qualitative text-analysis, intertextual analysis and multimodal analysis on a repository of N=161 original source texts between 1914 – 2024, and N=39 Russian military dictionaries and lexica between 1795 - 2024. Some initial insights and findings are described
