Title: Heat transfer across annular cavities

Abstract: An experimental investigation into the effect of axial spacers on the natural convective heat transfer between horizontal concentric cylinders was performed for a radius ratio, ro/ri of 1.5. Comparisons of the flow patterns, temperature profiles, and overall heat transfer correlations were made for air. The insertion of two horizontal spacers reduced the overall rate. of heat transfer from the inner cylinder surface. Vertical spacers increased the rate of heat transfer. Flow instabilities observed in the plain annular cavity were eliminated by the introduction of horizontal spacers.
